On March 25, several hundred Trump supporters gathered at Huntington Beach, Ca. for a so-called “Make America Great Again” rally, but the event soon turned violent as Trump supporters attacked counter protesters.

As fights took place, four people were arrested from the anti-fascist side while no arrests were made of the Trump supporters who were seen in several videos repeatedly chasing after and violently attacking anti-fascist protesters.

Two of the protesters arrested, a brother and sister, are siblings of a Party for Socialism and Liberation member and supporters of the party. A third detainee was also a close family friend. The three are seen in videos being surrounded by Trump supporters and then beaten.

A male Trump supporter punched the sister, J.A, in the face. Seconds later she was aggressively pushed down by three more males and carried away to be turned in to the police. The brother, M.A, and friend, J.F, were knocked down several times and hit by more than one Trump supporter at a time.

Though police were present and in view of the fights, according to J.A, no Trump supporters were arrested even after expressing their pride in beating up the three anti-fascist protesters.

Currently, all three have been released from jail and were able to get an attorney to represent them in court.

According to M.A, when he arrived, it was immediately clear that the anti-fascist protesters were extremely outnumbered, as less than 20 made an appearance. M.A. said they went with the intention of trying to keep things calm.

As they chanted “No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA” and “Black Lives Matter” they were soon surrounded by Trump supporters who began verbally insulting them with racist and sexist slurs, as well as kicking dirt in their face and pushing them around.

After these attacks, M.A. was also bitten by a police dog and taken to a local hospital for medical attention.

It is through such events, that it becomes clear whose side the police are on. As a handful of anti-fascist protesters were attacked, Trump supporters walked away free even after beating up protesters while using racist verbal attacks. It must always be kept in mind that the police will always be on the side of the oppressor.

These MAGA demonstrations are an attempt by the right wing to muster a show of force against the growing resistance to Trump. In the face of the mobilization of the masses against the Trump administration’s campaign of looting the public sector and rolling back all forms of civil rights, the Right has tried to bring forth its own demonstrations and rallies
