Outrage erupts: Hillary lies about Reagan’s AIDS legacy

Outrage continues to sweep the country as Hillary Clinton tries to take the reality of the history of AIDS, the bigoted legacy of the Reagan administration  and even Trump’s current blatant racism, and turn them into self promotion and deception of the people. Due to the outrage, Clinton was forced to dial back her initial statement, claiming to have “misspoken.”

It’s not working. Her statement praising President Reagan, and especially the recently deceased Nancy Reagan for “opening a national discussion on AIDS” is blatantly false and is a cruel insult to tens of thousands of people who died from AIDS while the leaders of the capitalist world stood by and watched.

Rather than deal with a civil rights and health emergency, capitalist politicians — Republicans AND Democrats, used the AIDS crisis to fan the flames of homophobia and racism.

Her latest shocking statements about the great anti-Trump action in Chicago, in which she blames those who have stood up to denounce Trump, as well as her Tweet that completely hides the truth about bigotry against people with AIDS, show that her real position in society is with the elites on Wall Street and the Pentagon. Her own statements show that she has obviously turned her back on all those who fought in the streets while brothers, sisters, and lovers suffered and died.

Especially hurt by this gross and callous distortion of what really happened are those millions who lost their families and loved ones due to inaction by the U.S. government. Her glib “apology” is as shallow and fake as her professed concern for poor and working people across the country and around the world.

The same ilk of bigots who attacked and hounded the child Ryan White, simply because he was HIV positive, who called for incarceration of gay men, who referred to AIDS as “God’s punishment of homosexuals” are now flocking to the Trump campaign to vent and spread their racism and Islamaphobia.

Like the people of Chicago who have bravely stood up to bigotry and racism, all of us who deplore violence against the people must continue to stand up and fight. We must hold Trump AND Clinton accountable for their disdain for those who fight back.

Stand Up! Fight Back!
