Protesters demand an end to war in Lebanon and Gaza

Around 50 anti-war activists participated in a picket line protest in Kingston, NY, Saturday, Aug. 5, calling for an immediate cease-fire to stop the U.S.-financed and supported Israeli attacks upon Lebanon and Gaza that focused on punishing civilians and the civil infrastructure.

The two-hour event, organized by the Hudson Valley Activist Newsletter and Mid-Hudson ANSWER Coalition (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism), took place in Academy Green Park facing heavily trafficked Albany Ave. and was witnessed by a thousand or more cars traveling slow enough to read the posters.

The signs, mostly home made, carried such messages as “Israel Must Stop,” “Stop the U.S.-backed Israel war,” “No U.S. money for Israel’s wars,” and a big banner.

Anti-war activists in the region are upset by the number of civilians Israel is killing, including more than 300 children under 12 years-old in Lebanon. They think it is a crying shame, and know that the U.S. government made this carnage possible by supplying Israel with money, war materials and political support.
