This Saturday, Nov. 11, the Los Angeles branch of the Party for Socialism and Liberation will hold its third annual Socialism Conference.

Last year, over 120 people attended the event, including seasoned activists and a large number of workers and

students new to the struggle who came to find out more about an alternative to the capitalist system. This year, participants are expected from the Los Angeles area, greater Southern California, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., New York City and elsewhere.

The day-long conference will feature speakers, workshops, entertainment and discussion on a wide variety of topics related to the fight against capitalist exploitation, war, racism and imperialism, and the struggle for socialism in the U.S. and all over the world.

The day will begin with a focus on fighting the capitalist offensive, including the meaning of the capitalist mid-term elections; immigrant rights and the case for amnesty; fighting the Minutemen and right-wing attacks; Black liberation and socialist struggle; and the struggle against racism, sexism and homophobia, and for working class unity.

There will be presentations and discussions on why socialism is possible in the United States; the challenge to U.S. imperialism in Latin America, including socialism in Cuba, revolution in Venezuela and rebellion in Mexico; resistance forces in the Middle East and Asia; solidarity with Iraq, Palestine, Haiti, Korea, the Philippines; and a Marxist analysis of China.

The conference will be a great way for anyone who wants to get involved in the struggle against racism and imperialism, and for socialism, to do so. It will take up building a revolutionary movement, the working class as a revolutionary force and the role of a revolutionary Marxist party.

There will also be a special workshop focused on youth and student revolutionary organizing.

Among the speakers will be leaders of the anti-war, immigrant rights and student movement from across the country.

Featured speakers include Brian Becker, Party for Socialism and Liberation and National Coordinator of the ANSWER Coalition (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism); Karina Garcia, Political Chair of the Chicano Caucus at Columbia University in New York; Muna Coobtee, Free Palestine Alliance; Eugene Puryear, Howard University student leader; Gloria La Riva, Coordinator of the National Committee to Free the Cuban Five; Ian Thompson, Editor of PSLweb.org; Juan Jose Gutierrez, Director of Latino Movement USA; Carlos Alvarez, Youth & Student ANSWER; Angelina Corona, Executive Director of Hermandad Mexicana Nacional; and Preston Wood, Coordinator of ANSWER Coalition-LA.

The conference will take place on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 2501 S. Hill St. in Los Angeles. Doors open at 9 a.m. for registration. Food will be provided and parking is available.
