several surgical procedures.

As his health improves, Castro is eagerly resuming his battle against the U.S. imperialists. He recently denounced the U.S. goal of consuming 35 billion gallons of ethanol by 2017, diverting 320 million tons of corn from the tables of the hungry to reduce gasoline consumption. In a May 26 statement, Castro sharply attacked the Iraq war and Bush’s contempt for the poor, which Bush most recently reiterated by calling for military strikes in “60 or more dark corners of the world.”

Castro’s brother Raul temporarily assumed the presidency in July 2006 after Castro suffered complications from intestinal surgery. Since then, the corporate media and Cuban right-wingers have been openly hoping for the death of the revolutionary leader. Their wishes may not be coming true anytime soon.
