On Aug. 19 in San Bernardino, Calif., police officers attacked a peaceful crowd mourning the shooting death of 22-year-old Charles Marshall.
About 20 police officers approached the crowd of 50 to 60 gathered at a curbside vigil in a predominately African American neighborhood. The police started arresting people without any basis—shoving, pepper spraying and punching mourners. Marshall’s 16-year-old brother was among the five people arrested.
Residents, including Marshall’s mother, expressed their anger about this racist harassment at a San Bernardino City Council meeting. The police chief claims that there will be an investigation but has otherwise refused to comment. So far, nothing has been done.
