Schools lose funding as war spending soars

According to a Nelson A. Rockefeller Institute of Government study released Oct. 22, the United States spends an average of a little over $6,000 yearly for each public school student in the United States. Washington, D.C. topped the list with $10,829 spent per student. This is three times what Utah spends at the bottom of the list.

According to some reports, the U.S. government is spending $500,000 per minute on the war in Iraq.

Schools in the United States are increasingly run down. Teachers and students struggle against lack of funding for meaningful curriculum, books, supplies and myriad other resources. Teachers are underpaid and overworked.

The U.S. government should be held accountable for spending billions killing Iraqis, while denying students the right to a decent education here.
