Protests fight ban on homosexual male blood donors

There has recently been an upwelling of protest against a 1983 Food and Drug Administration ban on blood donations from homosexual men.

Last year, the Red Cross and American Association of Blood Banks called on the FDA to reverse the ban. On Jan.27, San Jose State University banned blood drives on campus in protest of the ban. The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on Feb.26 to oppose the ban, but stopped short of banning blood banks altogether.

Only five decades ago, homosexuality itself was considered a psychiatric disease and treated as such. As AIDS—the disease caused by HIV—became an epidemic, ruling-class media and medical “experts” classified it as a homosexual disease.

These claims, like the current FDA ban, have no basis in science and are meant to demonize a sector of society. The FDA ban is part and parcel of the ruling class propaganda against the LGBT community.
