From July 2 to July 5, PSL vice-presidential candidate Eugene Puryear and campaign supporters traveled to Louisiana in order to complete the state’s ballot access requirements. In Louisiana, nine electors—one from each of seven congressional districts, plus two at large— are required to be placed on the ballot. The PSL campaign team traveled to all 7 congressional districts to meet with supporters.

Campaign supporters visited a number of cities and towns such as Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Jena, Lafayette, and Amite. Vice Presidential candidate Eugene Puryear was able to meet for several hours with Caseptla Bailey, mother of Robert Bailey, one of the Jena 6. In addition, campaign supporters stopped off to witness the hurricane relief projects run by Common Ground Relief.

The PSL campaign team obtained electors from existing contacts and many new friends interested in a socialist alternative during the 2008 election season. We look forward to a continued campaign effort in Louisiana in the coming months.
