Party for Socialism and Liberation on the ballot in Wisconsin

On Aug. 20, the Party for Socialism and Liberation presidential ticket of Gloria La Riva and Eugene Puryear achieved ballot status in Wisconsin. La Riva and Puryear are now on the ballot in 10 states.

More than 2,500 signatures were collected in Wisconsin in order to qualify for the ballot. In the first week of August, members and friends of the PSL from Chicago and California traveled to Milwaukee, Wis., to petition for five days at the Wisconsin State Fair.

Tens of thousands of people from diverse communities from all over Wisconsin attend the fair. Many of the people who signed petitions expressed a deep anger at the two mainstream parties. Wiz Kid Nice, a young African American student who signed the PSL petition, commented: “You’ve got my vote. We need a party that really fights racism and represents the poor people of this country.”

The La Riva/Puryear campaign will be in Wisconsin on a regular basis over the next two months to promote socialism and an independent working-class struggle for housing, education, health care and jobs.
