As Gaza burns, Bushes mourn cat

India, the Bushes’ 18 year-old cat, passed away on Jan. 4 as the U.S.-backed Israeli military massacre of Palestinians in Gaza raged on.

Laura Bush issued an obituary for the beloved feline, whose passing receiving widespread coverage in national and international media including CBS, MSNBC, Reuters, The Associated Press, The New York Times and The Washington Post. Media anchors expressed sympathy for the Bushes’ and the loss of their “family member” even as they continued to spin the slaughter of mothers, fathers and children in Gaza.

But some Arab commentators did not miss the opportunity to put the focus back on politics. One writer enraged at the collusion of Arab leaders with the ongoing massacre of Palestinians put it this way: “This is not the right time to die. It is a dilemma for the Arab leaders at this time because they are busy and have to leave the region to offer condolences.”
