Frances Villar for Mayor Campaign Newsletter (July 22)

Dear PSL friend,

Frances Villar on the cover of El DiarioTo date, the PSL’s Frances Villar for Mayor Campaign has collected over 14,000 petitions to submit to the New York City Board of Elections calling for Frances Villar to be placed on this year’s mayoral ballot! The board requires 7,500 valid signatures, collected over a 6-week period, but the Frances Villar Campaign has collected nearly double that number in only two weeks. The campaign will submit the petitions on August 11, the first day allowed by election law.

The petitions have been collected entirely by campaign volunteers. “We will be on the ballot this Fall because volunteers in all five boroughs have sacrificed days of work, their weekends, and after-work hours to collect petitions,” Frances said in a press release issued today. Frances personally put 8-hour days into the petitioning effort; have you ever seen Mike Bloomberg doing outreach on the street?

Major Media Breakthrough!

– Frances’ campaign was featured in a 2 minute segment on the 6 o’ clock news on the widely watched Spanish-language Telemundo Network (channel 47). Aired July 20th, 2009

Russia Today, an international News Network that broadcasts in NYC over Time Warner Cable and other cable TV companies, aired a 3-minute segment on Frances Villar’s campaign! Aired July 8th, 2009.

Why I’m Supporting Frances Villar for Mayor:

Monique LewisBy Monique A. Lewis, working mother and student at Bronx Community College

“My name is Monique A. Lewis and I am a mother of five children, ages 22 to 5 yrs old. I know Frances from Bronx Community College, where I am currently pursuing my degree in Social Work. I have been through many ups and downs in my life — from domestic violence, losing a child unexpectedly (my youngest son, Raymond, Jr), to now possibly being homeless — but I am still standing strong! Things like this won’t stop me and I look forward to the day I will be able to show my children a better future.

“Through all my struggles, including the fight against CUNY tuition hikes last year, Frances has been a tireless organizer, staunch supporter and a friend. She is dedicated to making sure everyone in New York receives fair treatment and that is what I love about her. She will do right by New York!”

We need all the funds we can get in order to continue bringing the message of struggle to the working people of NYC. We’ll be holding street meetings and organizing street meetings to get out the word: “Billionaires, Your Time is Up! Put Poor and Working People First!” Click this link to watch a slideshow of a recent PSL street meeting. Please make a much-needed donation to the campaign today!

See you in the streets,

The VotePSL Campaign Team
