Activist soldier Dan Choi discharged

Dan Choi recently learned that he had been honorably discharged from the Army National Guard. He was dismissed for publicly stating he was gay when he came out on live television in 2009. He was notified of his discharge in a letter sent to his home in California.

Since his announcement, Dan Choi has actively engaged in the struggles for equality. He was one of the activists who chained themselves to the fence in front of the White House in March to protest of the military’s anti-LGBT personnel policy.

“The statute hasn’t been lifted yet,” he said. “And I’m still going to be an activist. I’m still going to be fighting loudly for equal rights.”

Dan Choi has become a symbol for the struggle to repeal “don’t ask, don’t tell” in the military, and an inspiration for all those fighting for this just cause.
