According to a report released Nov. 30 by 21 aid groups, including Amnesty International and Save the Children, construction in the Gaza Strip remains hindered. This report comes 6 months after Israel said it would ease its blockade on Gaza.
The aid groups accused Israel of avoiding its promises to ease the pressure of the blockade on civilians.
“We aren’t seeing an easing of the blockade compared to Israel’s declared aims,” said Karl Schembri of Oxfam.
The U.N. is attempting to rebuild schools and housing, but they have only been able to begin on 7 percent of that work due to Israeli bureaucracy and tight border controls.
The blockade has kept out raw materials, including those needed to rebuild infrastructure after Israel’s genocidal attack on Gaza in 2009. The ban on raw materials has kept 65 percent of Gazan factories closed.
As a result of the imperialist blockade of Gaza, 40 percent of Gazans are unemployed and 80 percent depend on aid.
