“I’m going to stand up for all the victims of police brutality including myself. I have been a victim of stop-and-frisk. I have been a victim of random searches. I’ve been stopped on the subway in New York City when I was wrongly identified. I am going to stand up against police violence,” said Max-Evan Aguayo, a package handler at UPS in Jersey City and member of the Teamsters Local 177.
“I believe the police are being goons of the state in order to repress the workers. The police are stopping and frisking the workers, and the sons and daughters of the workers. The conditions that the workers face today, we’re hustling with what we have to do to survive, and the police abuse their power regularly against us,” explained Max-Evan.
“The unions need to take on the issues that all workers face like the unemployed, those not in the union, the low wage workers–there needs to be a broader base,” commented Max-Evan who was born in New York of Puerto Rican and Ecuadorean heritage. He currently resides in Jersey City, NJ.
“They want to keep us quiet like sheep, but we’re not gonna stay quiet,” concluded Max-Evan who will be part of the Party for Socialism and Liberation contingent in Newark on July 25.
