Palestine solidarity growing in Philly

For the third week in a row, hundreds of Philadelphians gathered in front of the Israeli Consulate on 19th and JFK Ave demanding an end to the Israeli assault on Gaza.

This week’s protest continues a month long series of Palestinian solidarity actions in this city and comes only two days after over 200 rallied to denounce a Zionist gathering in the city’s iconic LOVE park. This latest protest was.S. funding for Israeli war crimes, most recently the bombing of a UN school by IDF forces which killed 16 and wounded over 150 civilians. Protesters marched from the Israeli Consulate to City Hall and back again chanting “Not another nickel, not another dime, no more money for Israel’s crimes!”

Speakers at the rally highlighted the importance and frequency of solidarity demonstrations around the world, and the need for coordinated action here in the heart of world imperialism.

A coalition of activists has formed to organize buses from Philly to join the August 2nd rally in Washington, D.C. called by the ANSWER Coalition. In 2009 over 30,000 people gathered in D.C. at an ANSWER coordinated mass action for Palestine.
