Bahraini unions fight to have workers reinstated

The
General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions is currently fighting to
have 2,500 workers reinstated to their jobs. These workers were
originally fired when they took part in demonstrations against the
despotic, pro-imperialist monarchy earlier this year.

On
February 20 the federation held a one-day general strike that was
supported by thousands of workers. It called for an indefinite strike
in March, but the strike was violently suppressed by the Saudi-led
military force at the request of the Bahraini government.

The
General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions represents over 20,000
people and 70 affiliate unions. Most Bahrainis are Shia Muslims and
face discrimination from the U.S. backed Sunni elite.

Political
firings, religious oppression and the crackdown on free speech seen
in Bahrain are common worldwide. U.S. imperialism, enforcer of global
capitalism, clearly approves of these repressive tools as
demonstrated by their support for the Bahraini regime. Socialism is
the answer for workers in Bahrain and across the world.
