Justice for Palestine rally draws hundreds

LA July 7 Palestine demo
On July 7, 2006, the Muslim American Society, the National Council of Arab Americans and the ANSWER Coalition held a “Justice for Palestine” protest in response to the ongoing U.S.-backed Israeli assault on the Palestinian people of Gaza.

Hundreds of demonstrators from around Southern California gathered in front of the Westwood Federal Building to denounce the United States’ support of Israel’s murderous rampage. As protesters chanted “Free Palestine, end the occupation!” and “No justice, no peace!” the racist counter-demonstrators were frustrated by their inability to intimidate the peaceful and strong gathering.

Speakers included Ahmad Azzam of the Muslim American Society, who gave a compassionate appeal to the international community to express outrage against the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. This writer spoke for ANSWER, laying blame on the U.S. government for failing to condemn Israel’s racist actions. Nader Abuljebain of the Nation Council of Arab Americans reminded protesters that the “strength of the Palestinians throughout history against great adversity came from their unity as a people, despite any political or religious divide.”

The demonstration concluded with a renewed commitment from all those participating to continue to demand an end to the assault on Gaza and to spread the solidarity for Palestine throughout our communities in Southern California.
