Solidarity rallies with Palestine

In Washington, D.C., there have been two recent actions against the brutal Israeli assault on the Palestinian people. The ANSWER Coalition (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) and the Muslim American Society Freedom Foundation have co-sponsored both actions.

At the first rally, on June 29, around 40 people came out to support Palestine in the middle of the workday with only 24 hours’ notice. Protesters included activists and a significant number of Arab American families.

Imam Mahdi Bray of the Muslim American Society chaired the rally. Brian Becker, national coordinator of the ANSWER Coalition, spoke, and solidarity messages were heard from Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom and others.

On July 6, more than 80 people, including families and youth, rallied against the ongoing Israeli attack on Gaza. The protesters picketed in front of the Israeli embassy. Washington, D.C., area leaders like Rev. Graylan Hagler participated in the action.

Both rallies linked the Israeli invasion of Gaza to its U.S. imperialist backers, highlighting the integral nature of the Palestinian struggle to the worldwide struggle against imperialism.

Another protest will take place on Friday, July 14, at 5 p.m. at the Israeli Embassy.
